INJURY EVALUATION AND TREATMENT

An Injury Evaluation and Treatment serves two purposes. The first purpose is to evaluate the specific injury you may have. The second is to treat that specific injury and the soft tissue around it that may also be responsible for causing pain and discomfort. Please be aware that this is not a substitute for a medical diagnosis, as only your doctor can provide that service. When evaluating your injury, the therapist will test the muscles, tendons and/or ligaments and joints with active, passive and resisted tests to see if your injury is indicative of a sprain (a tear in the fibers of ligaments), a strain (a tear in the fibers of a muscle) or tendonitis (inflammation of the tendon). The treatment techniques involved when treating these specific types of injuries are:

  • Cross fiber frictioning to help break down scar tissue and adhesions in the soft tissue.
  • Deep tissue massage to increase blood flow to the injured area and to promote speeding of the healing process.
  • Ice massage to decrease inflammation and pain as well as to promote new tissue polarization (encourage the fibers to lay down side by side which helps to ensure proper healing).
  • Specific exercises that will be given to expedite proper recovery of the affected area.

If your injury is one we cannot treat, your therapist will refer you to an appropriate healthcare practitioner for treatment. In many cases, more than muscular therapy can be used to assist in the injury's healing process. Our staff is dedicated to working with other healthcare providers to ensure the best care and treatment possible for you.
